If you go up to the hatchery, you’ll notice a lot of work going on! The coho rearing ponds are being updated!
The ponds are drained, and the fencing is coming down. Soon the excavators will arrive. The interior and perimeter of the ponds will be cleared of the old rock, sediment and weeds, and resurfaced with new rock. A new headwall will be installed at the east end, and steps will be added to allow safer access to the ponds. The pond fencing will remain the same, with the addition of a new cable system and new predator netting.
This project will be underway throughout until June 28th.
